Taco Cantina Opening in Former Baked in Old Fourth Ward

A new location of Taco Cantina is coming soon to the Old Fourth Ward.  The Mexican eatery from "acclaimed chef" Adolfo Gonzales will open in place of Baked Comfort Foods, which closed this past January at the Tribute Lofts near the intersection of John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Boulevard.

Gonzales, along with his wife Briana, opened the original Taco Cantina on Spring Road in Smyrna during the summer of 2015.  The Smyrna Taco Cantina is located in a small strip center across the street from the relatively new RaceTrac gas station and convenience store.

Mr. Gonzales grew up in Zacatlan, Puebla Mexico and was raised in the kitchen.  His mother Teodora had eight children to cook for daily, and Alolfo learned early on the importance of fresh ingredients in many Mexican dishes.  Chef Adolfo's first restaurant job in Atlanta was at Buckhead Life's Atlanta Fish Market as a teenager.   He later became one of Chef Pano Karatassos’s youngest Sous Chefs at age 18.  Adolfo was fortunate enough to also work alongside Chef Kevin Rathbun for a few years while Kevin was at Nava and the Atlanta Fish Market.  Adolfo honed his culinary skills while in the kitchens of Buckhead Diner and Corner Cafe, both part of Buckhead Life Restaurant Group.

The new Taco Cantina, which measures about 2,400 sq. feet,  will allow the Gonzales to add a full bar to compliment their popular food menu along and offer additional seating.

The Shumacher Group, Inc. and Steve Josovitz represented the landlord in the transaction, but "guided" Adolfo & Briana Gonzales through the process, including their acquisition of all furniture, fixtures and equipment.

Have you ever been to Taco Cantina?  Do you think Taco Cantina will find success in Atlanta as they have in Smyrna?  Where is your favorite place in Atlanta for tacos?
