In early August, ToNeTo Atlanta was first to announce that Draper James planned to open its fourth overall store in Buckhead and we can now confirm that the boutique quietly opened this past Thursday. Joining existing locations in Nashville, Dallas and Lexington, the boutique from actress Reese Witherspoon opened in the Shops Around Lenox in a space previously occupied by fab'rik. Former C. Wonder president Andrea Hyde, who had been CEO of Draper James since its inception, left the company in September, but her C. Wonder-like merchandise and southern-a-fied C. Wonder design is in evidence in the Buckhead outpost.
Hobby Lobby plans to open its newest Atlanta area location January 8 on Atlanta Highway in Loganville.
Tuesday Morning celebrated the grand opening of its latest Atlanta area location this past Sunday at 1541 Highway 20 W in McDonough Commons in McDonough.
Coffee & Bagels, a new concept shop featuring both Caribou Coffee and Einstein Bros. Bagels under one roof, opened yesterday and will celebrate the grand opening of its new Tucker location in Tucker Meridian shopping center on Monday November 27. The store, in an outparcel of the DSW/Dick's/Sprouts/Hobby Lobby-anchored center, is located near the corner of LaVista Road and Northlake Parkway. The first 50 guests in line on Monday morning will receive "free breakfast for a year" (one coffee,bagel & shmear each week for one year.) All guests at the Tucker location on Monday will receive a complimentary bagel & shmear with any purchase all day.
Marietta Square Market, a new food hall planned near the historic Marietta Square, has reportedly secured its first tenants. Located at 68 North Marietta Parkway, the project includes the complete renovation of an 18,500 square foot warehouse that will house up to 19 restaurant and retail concepts. Set to open in summer 2018, the project will have the look of an historic train station, including a restored trolley car. It will also have a large porch wrapping two sides of the building.
Forno – Wood Fired Artisan Pizza will be a Napolitano-style pizzeria from Scott Kinsey and Alexis Aleshire-Kinsey, owners of Taqueria Tsunami and Stockyard Burgers and Bones, among others. Forno will reportedly feature a bar with more than 30 beer taps.
Grand Champion BBQ will open its fifth overall, and second food hall location in the Marietta project. Grand Champion's existing locations are in historic Roswell, Shallowford Road, also in Roswell, Milton and Krog Street Market in Inman Park.
Growing Mediterranean fast casual eatery Pita Mediterranean Street Food, will also open in the project. Pita, which has eleven locations open, including restaurants in Smyrna and Kennesaw, also has another in the works at the Avenue West Cobb. Pita's menu includes assorted gyros, shawarma and falafel dishes, among other specialties.
Southern Proper Hospitality (the team behind such restaurants as Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, The Big Ketch, Gypsy Kitchen and Beni's Cubano, among others, plans to open Street Taco, a fast-casual taqueria. Street Taco will serve street tacos along with grilled corn and traditional Mexican cocktails.
A new shop called Tiny Bubbles Tea Bar will also open in the market and is expected to offer bubble teas, Vietnamese coffee, loose leaf tea and French macarons, among other offerings.
TopPoke Korean & Poke will also open in the project in what will be its second overall location. The concept, from James Baek and Christian Lee, founders of BullGogi, Sumo Hibachi, and Wings 101, opened its first location earlier this year in a former Tom + Chee on Buford Drive in Buford. TopPoke is a Korean fast-casual eatery that offers a variety of customizeable bowls made with assorted marinated meats, vegetables and toppings.
Nova Sushi Bar & Asian Bistro is now open at Buckhead Triangle shopping center in Buckhead. The new Asian eatery opened "about a week ago" and replaced what had been Dr. Tattoff, between FedEx Office and the former hhgregg store on the lower level of the shopping center anchored by The Container Store.
Newk's Eatery plans to open its latest Atlanta area location Monday December 4 at Jonquil shopping center at the corner of Atlanta Road and Spring Road in Smyrna. Willy's Mexicana Grill is already open in the Publix-anchored center with plans for Bad Daddy's Burger Bar to open next year.
Bar Americano and Bar Crema, both from the team behind the Pinewood, the Mercury and most recently, Deep End, will open today at 5 p.m. in Andrews Square in Buckhead.
Bella Cucina, an Atlanta-based purveyor of pestos, olive oils, aromatic savory salts, citrus spreads, Italian flatbreads and crackers, and Dolci desserts, is opening a brick & mortar store at The Shops Buckhead Atlanta. The store, located beside retailer Alice & Olivia on Buckhead Avenue, is expected to open this coming Saturday, November 25 and is not described in media materials as a temporary, holiday only pop-up. Bella Cucina owner Alisa Barry previously operated a popular storefront in Virginia-Highland but closed it in 2013 amidst a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
On the heels of the recent opening of Batter Cookie Dough at Ponce City Market comes news that Seriously Dough will open a holiday (weekend only) pop-up at Mall of Georgia in Buford starting Friday December 1, and The Dough Jo recently opened its own shop in Valdosta. (Both shops were identified from their heavy Facebook advertising.) Could Atlanta see even more cookie dough shops in 2018?
Edward Don & Company, a nationwide distributor of food-service equipment and supplies, announced November 17 the acquisition of "certain assets" of Atlanta Fixture and Sales Company, Inc. "Since 1927, Atlanta Fixture has been a leading foodservice equipment and supplies distributor in the Atlanta market and throughout the Southeast Region." "Atlanta Fixture will operate as a division of Edward Don & Company and will remain under the leadership team of Ron Bruck, Bill Watson, Marty Levenstiem and Jess Logan." Atlanta Fixture will continue to operate their 60,000 square foot Atlanta Fixture Showroom located at 3185 Northeast Expressway (adjacent to Regal Cinemas Hollywood 24), as well as a full-service distribution center serving Georgia, and neighboring southeastern markets.
