[Sound The Alarm] Poke City Planned for Former Firehouse Subs in Buckhead

Poke City Hawaiian Bowl plans to open in the former Firehouse Subs in The Shops of Buckhead.  As ToNeTo Atlanta previously reported, Firehouse abruptly closed its roughly 1,500 square foot sub shop at the Peachtree Road strip center last month.  This will mark Poke City's third overall location.

The first Poke City opened in Johns Creek Village in May.  In the center, located at the corner of Medlock Bridge and McGinnis Ferry Roads, Poke City opened in place of a 1,500 square foot suite most recently home to Z Pizza.

A second Poke City opened this past August in the Trader Joe's-anchored Midtown Promenade on Monroe Drive near Virginia Avenue.  The Midtown Poke City, which measures about 1,200 square feet, opened in place of what was most recently Kiri, a Korean & Japanese eatery.

Strangely, in Johns Creek and Midtown, the tenants Poke City replaced are still listed as the occupant of the center on their respective online site plans.  The Buckhead space is shown as "available."

The Shops at Buckhead, not to be confused with The Shops Buckhead Atlanta, is a two-level shopping center just north of Piedmont Hospital also home to Pho King, Big Al's Butter Made Burgers and Alexis Suitcase, among other tenants.

With so many poke places suddenly open or opening in metro Atlanta, one has to wonder how many we can actually support.  Another question, as poke seems to be fast becoming as ubiquitous as frozen yogurt, what makes one shop better or different than another?

Poke City addresses the latter question on their Facebook page.

"What distinguishes Poke City from other poké restaurants?👀  It is our main goal to serve the best quality poké bowl to each and every customers. Which means, MORE options and UNLIMITED choices of veggies, sauces, and toppings!! We don't want to stop you from enjoying your very own customized poké bowl because of limited choices. Go crazy on your bowl if you'd like, or go simple! Every poké bowl is made to perfection with the freshest ingredients.  So if you had hard time deciding between salmon and tuna, seaweed salad and avocado, don't worry. You can have it all at Poke City."

ToNeTo Atlanta remains skeptical of the longevity of so many poke concepts, but will give Poke City a shot, especially with the restaurant offering 50% off for opening weekend, whenever that is.

Do you think Atlanta can handle as many poke restaurants as have suddenly popped up?  Where is your favorite place to get poke in Atlanta?  What do you think will be the next "it" food trend?
