[EXCLUSIVE] The Painted Duck to Debut Next Week, Offer Frosted Orange Inspired Cocktail
The owners of Buckhead's The Painted Pin will debut their newest concept, The Painted Duck, next Wednesday December 27 at 5PM. The concept, similar in some ways to The Painted Duck, will feature an elevated beverage menu, but it will also introduce Atlanta to duckpin bowling and Belgian feather bowling.
Duckpin bowling is a variation of traditional ten-pin bowling where the balls and pins are smaller and players get three rolls per frame vs. the traditional two. Belgian feather bowling is a game played with a wooden “cheese wheel” that is rolled down a trough shaped alley towards a feather. The object is to get the ball as close to the feather as possible.
Located at the intersection of 10th Street and Brady Avenue, The Painted Duck anchors the new Stockyards Atlanta development. The Painted Pin, which opened on Buckhead's Miami Circle in 2014, is about 23,000 square feet, whereas The Painted Duck is approximately 25,000 square feet.
The Painted Duck will include a total of 16 duckpin bowling lanes, along with two Belgian feather bowling lanes, two indoor horseshoe pits, knuckleball, toad in the hole, two indoor deck shuffleboard courts, a 22 ft. shuffleboard table, a basketball three-point and free throw shoot-out, air hockey, snookball (a hybrid sport that blends pool with soccer), and other unique group gaming options. The new venue, like The Painted Pin, will feature live music Thursday through Saturday. Well placed sources indicate "secret" Karaoke may be offered too.
The cuisine, described as “backyard barfare,” will feature assorted small plates, dips, sliders, sandwiches, salads, and skewered wood fired meats and proteins called “quills”, prepared on a custom "show-stopper" grill.
The beverage program will focus on signature and classic cocktails, artisanal wines by the glass, and local and craft beer. Moscow Mule slushies, the signature cocktail from The Painted Pin, will not be offered at The Painted Duck, instead the team created a Frosted Orange inspired cocktail.
"Frosted Duck L’Orange" was inspired by an Atlanta classic, The Varsity’s Frosted Orange. Bar Manager Trip Sandifer's version is essentially a frozen orange creamsicle drink with coconut milk, orange soda, vodka and orange flower water.
The Frosted Duck L'Orange will come in its own branded cup. Skilled bowlers who roll a strike will receive a complimentary branded cup to take home.
Painted Hospitality, the parent company of both The Painted Pin and The Painted Duck, is reportedly looking to take their concepts to other markets in the coming years but there are no confirmed additional locations at this time.
Denver, Colorado-based Punch Bowl Social, a similar bowling and bar venue, plans to make its debut in the Atlanta market next year. Originally slated to open this past September, Punch Bowl now expects to open its new 27,000 square foot, two-story location at The Battery Atlanta this coming spring.
Are you excited for The Painted Duck to open? Have you ever bowled duckpin or Belgian feather? Does the idea of an alcoholic Frosted Orange drink excite you?
