[UPDATE] A Progress Report on Atlanta Area Chick-fil-A Restaurants

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A is actively engaged in opening a number of new locations and the rebuilding of older locations around the metro area.  As ToNeTo Atlanta previously reported, Chick-fil-A locations in Sandy Springs on Roswell Road and on North Druid Hills Road were demolished and are currenty being rebuilt.

One noticeable change to the Druid Hills restaurant is that the drive-thru has been flipped such that the window is now on the Druid Hills side of the building rather than on the Briarcliff side of the building as it had been.  

In addition to the previously reported locations, Chick-fil-A now confirms to ToNeTo Atlanta its plans to demolish and rebuild its restaurant at 5075 Stone Mountain Highway in Stone Mountain next year.  The restaurant, which opened in 1996, is a full ten years newer than the Druid Hills restaurant but nonetheless is being rebuilt.  Chick-fil-A is seeking a few zoning variances for its new restaurant including one to "allow encroachment of 6 ft into the 30 ft rear building setback."  A Chick-fil-A spokesperson told ToNeTo Atlanta "We are unable to share a firm timeline at this point, however, we are planning to scrape and rebuild this restaurant next year."

ToNeTo Atlanta had heard from East Cobb sources that the Chick-fil-A on Johnson Ferry Road in an outparcel of Woodlawn Square shopping center was also slated for a "scrape and rebuild."  The restaurant, which like the Druid Hills location is an 80s era restaurant, would seem an ideal candidate for a rebuild, but the Chick-fil-A spokesperson indicated there was "no update" on any potential plans at Woodlawn Square. 

In recent years, Chick-fil-A has demolished and rebuilt its Cobb county restaurants on Windy Hill Road and in Akers Mill Square.

ToNeTo Atlanta inquired whether there were existing plans to "scrape and rebuild" any other Atlanta 80s era units (i.e. those in Doraville, Chamblee, Douglasville, Duluth (2) and Lilburn), and was told "none that we can share at this time." 

The Chick-fil-A spokesperson indicated that both the Druid Hills and Northridge locations - which were expected to reopen in January 2018 - are likely on track, adding that "if all goes according to plan – we should reopen 1Q 2018." 

A Chick-fil-A restaurant that the company first announced in 2015 and that was to have opened in early 2017, held a dedication last month, and is reportedly on track to open in early 2018.  The 4,000 square foot restaurant is located at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Lowery Boulevard in Atlanta's Vine City neighborhood.  

Another Chick-fil-A expected to open in early 2018 will be located in phase two of Fuqua Development's "Decatur Crossing."   Phase one is anchored by a Sprouts Farmers Market, while phase two will welcome a new Aldi as well as Chick-fil-A and a number of other eateries and other businesses.  The new Chick-fil-A will be located alongside Dunkin' Donuts (part of phase one) on Scott Boulevard.
