Desta Destined For Emory Point in 2018

Husband & wife co-owners Ash Nega and Titi Demise plan to bring their popular eatery, Desta Ethiopian Kitchen, to Emory Point next year.  The Ethiopian restaurant will open in place of BurgerFi which opened during spring 2013 and closed this past February.  The new Desta will be just under 2,600 square feet.

The first, and currently only, Desta opened on July 1, 2006, and is located in Williamsburg Village shopping center, near the intersection of Clairmont and Briarcliff Roads.  The new location will be four miles from the original.

Nega and Demise were both born and raised in Ethiopia. The two met later in life in Atlanta and instantly knew they would be a team forever.  The original Desta was quite small, serving only eight people, four seated at a table and another four standing at a counter.  With robust flavors and a unique offering, Desta has made its restaurant a destination for those seeking authentic Ethiopian fare.  In the years since the initial launch, the restaurant has expanded multiple times and now has the capacity to serve 250 guests and features both a large outdoor patio as well as a drive-thru window.  Desta also offers catering, a feature that has proven quite popular.

Desta is the latest local restaurant to join the development, and is the third in recent months to replace a failed national chain.  Marcello's, a popular Italian eatery in Chastain Park, opened a new location in the former La Tagliatella last year, but it closed earlier this year.  Papi's Cuban & Caribbean Grill opened this past January in the former Bonefish Grill.

Sources close to the restaurant indicate they plan to open at Emory Point next spring.

Are you excited about the addition of Desta to Emory Point? What else would you like to see open at Emory Point?  Where do you eat most often at Emory Point?
